When it comes to submitting photographic work to the critical scrutiny of others, many amateur photographs feel butterflies in their stomach. Photography contests can be a very good start for a career, although it is important not to let yourself discouraged by rejection. Even so, you should not judge things in black and white here, because photography is a joy in itself and it has lots of rewards with every shot you take.
Entrance is the first stage of photography contests. When you enter photos in the contest, it is important to carefully follow the rules. Every competition has its guidelines and they are not at all arbitrary. Sometimes, you may not understand some of the regulations of photography contests, photography contests have those regulations; do not try to contradict or change them. Failure to obey can attract rejection and that is something you want to avoid.
The categories are also incredibly important for photography contests. Analyze every category closely before entering photos to any of them. Some categories will always have more entries than others. In fact, the fewer the entries per category, the higher the chances for you to win. Sometimes it is difficult to call a winner because of the many great photos in competition.
The organizers of many photography contests are national nature organizations, conservations associations and magazines. The information available online on former editions can help you learn about categories, the winning styles, the rules and regulations. Moreover, you can understand what level of quality is required from you on the occasion.
Choose your photos well once you have decided for what category or categories to enter. You do not have to enter the maximum number of photos required, this number should not be compelling for you. High quality always makes a good impression. If you are required to submit three photos at the maximum, enter three excellent ones, not two mediocre and a great one.
Photography contests are not for professionals only. You put a cornerstone for your career in case you win a photography competition. Judges will look for something unique, elements that catch the eye and set a contestant apart from the rest. That is your chance of winning!
